SCENTWORK
Scentwork is a game/sport that gives dogs a mental and physical outlet. It can be trained competitively or as a fun game designed to help dogs gain confidence and independent problem solving.
6-Week Classes
Scentwork Level 1 (Intro)
Designed for owners and dogs that have not trained in scentwork before or for dogs that are not currently searching for competition odors (Birch, Anise, Clove, or Cypress). Focuses on teaching the dog solid foundations using food and then imprinting onto odor.
Scentwork Level 2
For owners and dogs that may have taken a scentwork class before or have tried some training on their own. This class works on introducing competition odors and building the dog’s confidence and enthusiasm for searching for odor.
Scentwork Level 3
This class covers single hide searches. It will incorporate interior, containers, and buried searches as well as exteriors (weather permitting). It can be a great way to get the non-trailing dog some mental stimulation (tire them out) or expose trialing dog/human teams to Novice or Nose Work Level 1 searches.
Intermediate Scentwork : Multiple Hides
This class will incorporate container and interior searches, as well as exteriors and vehicles (weather permitting). This class will start to incorporate multiple hide searches. Ideal for scentwork teams who have already passed their Novice or NW1 searches or for non-trailing dogs that have completed the Beginner Scentwork Class.
Intermediate Scentwork: Distractions!
This class will focus on distractions in the search area. It will focus on containers, buried, interior, and exterior (weather permitting) elements. (Not vehicles)
Scentwork Games
This fun class that is going to introduce games that can be played at home. It will improve the dog’s ability to source odor while also adding in some new challenges.
Container Games
This class focuses on exercises to improve the dog’s ability to source odor in closed containers and hides in buried sand or water containers.
Scents in the Real World: Scentwork Edition
Class meets at a different location each week to practice scentwork.
Scentwork Drop-In Session
One hour group session. Anyone with a dog on odor can sign up for it. Different elements will be covered in each class.
Pet Grooming
We don’t just train dogs, we clean them too!
Our skilled groomer can get your dog looking (and smelling) their best. Since our groomer is also a trainer, we work on cooperative care during grooming sessions, so that dogs can feel more confident and less nervous about their spa days. Dogs are given breaks and extra play and snuggles to make it a happy experience.
Grooming is a service for our training clients only. If we have not seen your dog for training for 6 months or more, you will need to schedule an acclimation visit prior to booking a grooming. This 30 minute visit will allow us to assess your dogs needs and comfort level, as well as let your dog get to know the groomer.
Do you have a puppy? Getting pups used to grooming services early is always a good idea! Our puppy acclimation visits are perfect for getting them comfortable before a full groom.
Grooming prices vary upon size, coat and cut type, and any special needs. Please message us with a photo and description so we can make a more accurate estimate of charges. Prices start at $30.
“I’m a bit of a helicopter dog mom and usually do all of my grooming myself. This time I decided I didn’t have the time to do a full deshed on my pup before she came with us on a trip, so I reserved an appointment at COMS. Evan did great with Imogen – she is a shy border collie who can take a minute to warm up to new people and she can be intimidating because her go to is to often growl upon meeting new folks. Evan took the time to acclimate her to the facility and to him by walking with us around the back where she could see, hear, and smell everything. I felt very comfortable that I was leaving her in good hands because of this. When we picked her up she looked and felt fantastic. We’d absolutely make the drive all the way from Dayton again in the future!”
